Ponca City’s Grant Dye – Athlete Spotlight Presented By Tom Henley Shelter Insurance

By Derrick Smith

Grant Dye says that the people that have had the biggest influence on his life are those who have been there since day one.

“My biggest role models are my parents,” he said. “They have taught me a lot and have helped me turn into the person who I am today.”

Grant is a senior at Ponca City High School. He plays forward for the Wildcats basketball team. He first started playing basketball when he was in the second grade and he loved the game so much that he has played it ever since.

Dye has worked hard in order to be a successful athlete.

“It takes a lot to be successful,” he said. “It takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and sacrifice. Along with spending countless hours in the gym.”

Throughout his career, Grant has made some great memories with his teammates, both on and off the court. While he has enjoyed them all, he says one personal moment stands out as his favorite.

“The highlight of my career so far is scoring twenty-one points in the first half against Putnam City during my junior year,” he recalled. “It was a great feeling to have such a good game, but I would not have been able to do it without my teammates.”

As a student, he has sat through lessons taught by many teachers. While he enjoys them all, it is tough for him to pick a favorite.

“It’s hard to choose a favorite teacher but many teachers have taught me a lot and had an impact on me.”

Grant is also a member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. Almost halfway through his senior year, Dye already has a plan for once he graduates high school.

“After I graduate, I plan to go to college,” he said. “I will pursue a degree in either athletic training or radiologic technology while hopefully continuing my basketball career.”
