VYPE Magazine Announces the Shelter Insurance Mr. Basketball Oklahoma Award Winner: Bijan Cortes from Kingfisher
The VYPE Magazine and Shelter Insurance are proud to announce the 2021 Mr. and Miss Basketball Oklahoma Award winners are Bijan Cortes from Kingfisher High School and Kelbie Washington from Norman High School.
The Shelter Insurance Mr. and Miss Basketball award recognizes the outstanding efforts Cortes and Washington gave this season as they both led their teams to a state championship. Cortes and Washington join a distinguished list of players named to the top honor in the state of Oklahoma.
During the 2020-21 season, Cortes averaged 22.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game and shot 83 percent from the free throw line. Cortes helped the Yellowjackets to a record of 25-1 this year, undefeated in district play, and a career mark of 107-4. Cortes has signed with the University of Oklahoma. Cortes is the second player from Kingfisher to win the award.
“Cortes is the type of player you love to watch. He works hard on both ends of the court and gives you 100 percent on every play. His career record speaks for itself, but his two championships speak volumes about the type of leader he is for Kingfisher,” said VYPE Publisher Austin Chadwick.
