Owasso’s Brianna Maddux – Owasso Area Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Owasso Drug

By Derrick Smith

Brianna Maddux first played golf about five and a half years ago. Since that time, she has seen her game greatly improve, but the improvement did not just randomly happen. Maddux had to do a lot to become the golfer she is today.
“I have put in a lot of hard work and dedication to be successful in golf,” she said. “Golf is more than just a physical game. To play, you have to be just as strong mentally as you are physically.”

Brianna is a junior at Owasso High School. She primarily plays first bag for the Lady Rams varsity golf team. As a golfer, she says one of her biggest role models has been her swing coach, Regina Goodwin.

“Since the beginning of my golf career, she has taught me to have a positive attitude no matter what,” Maddux said. “She has really helped me grow into the golfer and person I have become.”

As a student at Owasso, Brianna says that she has had a couple of teachers that have made a positive impact on her life as well.
“My favorite teacher was my sophomore English teacher, Mr. DeBella,” she stated. “He taught me that school can be fun if you make it fun and that no matter what others say, you can always achieve your dreams and goals in life. I also want to give a shout out to my seventh grade Spanish teacher, Elo Wilcoxen. Without her, I wouldn’t have even considered trying out for the junior high team.”

The highlight moment of her career so far happened early on for Maddux and it helped her realize her future potential.

“My favorite moment on the course is easy,” she said. “It was when I shot a 78 at my home course after just two and a half years of playing golf. That moment helped me realize that I wanted to pursue a college career in golf and maybe go farther.”

Outside of golf, Maddux is also a part of the Student Council, Junior Board, and the Owasso High School Mock Trial team. With another year to go in high school, she already has her sights set on the future.

“I plan to play golf at the collegiate level,” Brianna said. “I am looking forward to finding the perfect college for me.”
