TULSA, OK (April 21, 2023) – VYPE Magazine and Shelter Insurance are proud to announce the winner of the Miss Basketball Oklahoma Award, Stailee Heard of Sapulpa High School. Heard becomes the eleventh player to win the coveted award and the first Miss Basketball Oklahoma to represent Sapulpa High School.
The Shelter Insurance Miss Basketball Oklahoma Award recognizes the outstanding athletic achievements of Stailee Heard and the high standards of athletic excellence and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the court, which distinguishes Stailee as Oklahoma’s best female high school basketball player this season.
Heard and her team at Sapulpa High School had a solid season, winning the Class 5A state championship over Holland Hall 75-74 and finishing with a 25-2 record. The win marked the sixth basketball state title for Sapulpa girls’ basketball, the first since 2021.
As a senior, Heard averaged 20.5 points and 10.1 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 2.7 steals, and shot 55% overall from the floor and 34% from 3-point territory.
Sapulpa head girl’s basketball coach, Darlean Calip said of Heard, “Stailee is one of those once-in-a-lifetime players. She is a true basketball player and plays the game the right way with passion, drive, and a warrior mentality to do whatever to win. It has been a pleasure to watch her grow into an amazing young lady and an outstanding player.”
