VYPE MAGAZINE ANNOUNCES THE 2022-2023 SHELTER INSURANCE MR. BASKETBALL AWARD WINNER: DAYTON FORSYTHE OF DALE HIGH SCHOOL

TULSA, OK (April 21, 2023) – VYPE Magazine and Shelter Insurance are proud to announce the winner of the Mr. Basketball Oklahoma Award, Dayton Forsythe of Dale High School. Forsythe becomes the tenth player to win the coveted award and the first Mr. Basketball Oklahoma to represent Dale High School.

The Shelter Insurance Mr. Basketball Oklahoma Award recognizes the outstanding athletic achievements of Dayton Forsythe and the high standards of athletic excellence and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the court, which distinguishes Dayton as Oklahoma’s best male high school basketball player this season.

Forsythe finished an outstanding season with Dale High School by finishing the season undefeated and winning the Class 2A state title over No. 3 ranked Oklahoma Christian Academy. The win marked the second state title for the Dale Pirates under the leadership and guidance of head coach Jeff Edmonson.

On the season, Forsythe averaged 17.1 points, six rebounds, and six assists in 23 minutes per game. He shot 53% from the field and 40% from the three-point line while connecting on 81% of free throw attempts. Forsythe has 1,642 career points.

VYPE Magazine Managing Editor Bryce McKinnis said of Forsythe, “Dayton exemplifies the spirit of Oklahoma high school hoops. He’s extremely capable with the ball, a dangerous player at the rim, and a lights-out shooter from any spot within the half-court. Forsythe led Dale to a historic if not heroic, upset win in the 57th Tournament of Champions. The 2022-23 undefeated Dale Pirates went down as one of the state’s greatest small-school teams ever with Forsythe at the wheel. Everyone at VYPE Magazine and Shelter Insurance would like to congratulate Dayton Forsythe on winning the Shelter Insurance Mr. Basketball Oklahoma Award.”

Forsythe joins former Mr. Basketball award winners; Stevie Clark of Douglass (2012), Chauncey Collins of OKC Storm (2013), Shake Milton of Owasso (2014), Trae Young of Norman North (2015 and 2016), Kalib Boone of Tulsa Memorial (2017), Jett Sternberger of Kingfisher (2018), Bryce Thompson of Booker T. Washington (2019), Bijan Cortes of Kingfisher (2020), and Jai’Von “JV” Seat – Edmond Memorial (2021).
